1993 1 Oz Valassis Communications Round BU

This round was issued by Valassis Communications to commemorate the Make It Happen Day in 1993. Valassis Communications, Inc. is a Livonia, Michigan-based company that provides media and marketing services in the United States, Europe, Mexico, and Canada. It is one of the largest coupon distributors/processors in the world. Valassis' "Make It Happen Day," is where salaried employees establish annual goals. The company closes, and employees spend their time setting objectives. This round was produced and given out to employees.  The mint which produced the round is unknown.

Obverse: The central image on the obverse is a kite with the sun in the background.  The kite has the Valassis "V" logo on it.  Two inscriptions surround the image along the outer rim.  The upper one states "REACH FOR THE SKY" while the lower one reads "MAKE IT HAPPEN DAY 1993".

Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is a stylized image of the sunrise with sun rays radiating from the center. The phrase "OPERATION SUNRISE" is inscribed across the image.  The name of the company "VALASSIS COMMUNICATIONS, INC" is inscribed at the top while the date "JANUARY 21, 1992" is located at the bottom.  This is the date the company went public.
