South Korea Tiger

The tiger is an animal representative of South Korea. The Korean Tiger Bullion Series began in 2016 as a series of gold bullion rounds issued by the Korean Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corporation (KOMSCO). During 2016 and 2017, the rounds were minted in  sizes of 1/4 Oz, 1/2 Oz, and 1 Oz of .999 of Fine Gold. Silver 1 Oz bullion and proof coins were introduced in 2018. They are minted with 1 Oz .999 Fine Silver.

KOMSCO, the government-owned entity responsible for minting circulatory coinage, intends for the tiger bullion series to be a yearly issue with the design changing each year. Mintages for this series, like the South Korea Chiwoo series, are more limited with annual mintages ranging from 20K to just above 30K.

Design

Obverse: The obverse of the rounds in the series depict a tiger or a cub interacting with various South Korean cities. The weight of "1 OZ", the title "KOREAN TIGER" along with the date, and the name of the city are found somewhere on the obverse.

Reverse: The reverse depicts the main habitat of the Korean tiger, the Korean peninsula. The peninsula, which contains the Hangul letters of the Korean alphabet, is etched over a tiger-skin pattern. The KOMSCO Hallmark is located on the left and letter-changing latent technology containing the letters "AG" is found on the right. The central image is encircled by an outer rim also bearing a tiger-striped pattern.  At the top is the phrase "REPUBLIC OF KOREA". The lower inscription contains the content and purity of "FINE SILVER 999".
