Colonial Mint [PA]
Colonial Mint (Pennsylvania) vintage 1 Oz and fractional silver bullion rounds

Colonial Mint [PA]

Several mints have called themselves Colonial Mint. The Colonial Mint in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, began operations in 1972. Colonial Mint produced several well-known silver art bars in the early 1970s.  Even though the corporation is still active, it appears they only minted products during that period.

Products minted by Colonial Mint were minted with .999 Fine Silver. In 1973, they produced the well-known Nixon Watergate Bug art bar and the Secretariat art bar. Currently, the only known round they minted was the 1 Oz Internationale Silver Nummus. Although similarities exist between the Silver Nummus and the Universaro rounds minted from 1972 to 1975, the Universaro rounds were minted by the International Mint in California. Colonial Mint's mintmark is a scripted C with the letter M inside. They also marked many of the products with a C inside of a circle, reminiscent of a copyright symbol.
