Colonial Coins vintage 1 Oz and fractional silver bullion rounds

Colonial Coins

Colonial Coins of Houston, TX, was founded in the mid-1960s by George Vogt and continued operations until the mid-1990s. In addition to being a retail shop specializing in rare coins, it also minted gold and silver bullion and marketed them as investments. Colonial Coins gained national prominence due to the size and scope of its operation. Its advertisements can be found in many numismatic periodicals of the era.

Recently, it has come to light that Colonial Coins was instrumental in creating and distributing medallions for the Texas Sesquicentennial program that began in 1986. They also produced and distributed other Texas-themed rounds. Rounds were composed of .999 Fine Silver or gold. Although fractional sizes were available in gold, only 1 Oz rounds were minted in silver. The exact mintage is unknown, but it is probably in the hundreds rather than thousands. A detailed write-up of Colonial Coins is available at the Texas Stackers website
