Hecla Mining, founded in 1891, is the largest primary silver producer in the United States. Periodically they have produced rounds celebrating various aspects of the company. This round was minted in 1982 to celebrate the merger of Hecla with Day Mines. Hard to find!
Obverse: The central feature on the obverse is the image of a mine shaft. The upper inscription reads "HECLA MINING COMPANY" and the date "1982" is located to the lower right.
Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is a map of the state of Idaho along with the logo of both Hecla Mining and Day Mines. The upper inscription reads "HECLA MINING COMPAY - DAY MINES, INC." while the text at the bottom states "MERGED OCTOBER 20, 1981". The weight of "ONE TROY OUNCE" is located at the upper right and the content and purity of ".999 FINE SILVER" are inscribed immediately below the the logo for Hecla Mining.
