1987 1 Oz Golden Gate Bridge 50th Anniversary Round PF

The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco opened in 1937. This round was minted to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of this monument of architecture. The mint and mintage are unknown but some of the rounds exist enameled creating the possibility that it was produced by the Northwest Territorial Mint. Hard to find!

Obverse: The obverse features a sunrise scene with the Golden Gate Bridge in the foreground and the city of San Francisco providing the backdrop. At the top is the text "GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE / 50TH ANNIVERSARY". The bottom bears the dates "1937-1987" along with the city "SAN FRANCISCO".  

Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is a bar of music from the song "Theme from San Francisco". It contains the words "OPEN YOUR GOLDEN GATE". The upper inscription bears the text "SAN FRANCISCO / GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE / OPENED MAY 27, 1937". The slogan beneath the musical bar states "HER MAJESTIC BEAUTY CAN ONLY BE SURPASSED BY ONE'S IMAGINATION". The weight, content, and purity of "ONE TROY OZ. .999 FINE SILVER" is inscribed at the bottom.
