1971 1 Oz Tulane Homecoming Round BU

Each year the Tulane marching band issues commemorative medallions for homecoming. The medallions are issued in aluminum but some are also minted in silver. This round was minted to commemorate the Tulane homecoming in 1971. The mint and the mintage are unknown but only a few of the silver rounds remain in existence today. 

Obverse: The central image on the obverse is a car from the 1920s.  Above and to the right of the car is the phrase "HOMECOMING AT TULANE". The theme "RETURN TO THE 20s" arches across the top while the dates "OCT. 29-30, 1971" can be found.

Reverse: The reverse features the seal for Tulane University. Light gray crescents are depicted in red quarters complemented by small five-pointed stars of yellow color on the right and left. The red-gray stripe above the shield symbolizes the famous cloak of Bienville. Three gray towers are shown in each black segment. A light-brown pelican sits on a folded cloak guarding a nest with three chicks. The motto “NON SIBI, SED SUIS” is written on a white ribbon in the lower half of the seal and separated by the number “1834”. The seal has a light blue frame with a wide brown outline and contains the full name of the university "THE TULANE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA".

Edge: The edge is reeded except for a smooth spot at the bottom that contains the purity and content of "999 F".
