Description

Hard to find vintage round. Dick McIntyre, owner of Frontier Sporting Goods in Fairbanks, Alaska, commissioned the rounds. The mint is unknown.

Obverse: The obverse contains several inscriptions with the design centered around the Alaska state map. Around the map are the words "FOOD", "OIL", "SILVER", and "GOLD".  The upper right of the round bears the weight and content of "ONE TROY OUNCE SILVER" while the lower left bears the inscription of "INTERNATIONAL BARTERING UNIT".  Additional weight designations of "31.1 GRAMS" and "480 GRAINS can be found immediately above this inscription.

Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is a map of the globe. The purity of "999 FINE" is inscribed above the map, while "99.9% PURE" can be found below it. The upper inscription reads "ALASKA SILVER COIN" and the weight of "ONE TROY OUNCE" is located near the bottom. Immediately below the weight inscription is the date. To the right of the date, the phrase "UNA PLATA" can be found, and to the left is the equivalent phrase in Japanese.
