2005 1 Oz California State Quarter Replica Round BU

This round was issued to commemorate the state quarters being minted by the US Mint at the time.  Many private mints minted state quarter replicas and at this time the mint for this particular item has not been identified.

Obverse: The obverse features the familiar left-facing image of George Washington by John Flanagan, used for the quarter since 1932. Above the image "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed. The phrase "LIBERTY" is found to the left while "IN GOD WE TRUST" can be found in smaller letters to the right. Beneath the bust, the denomination has been replaced by "ONE OZ 999 SILVER" referencing the weight, purity, and content.

Reverse: The reverse features an image of naturalist and conservationist John Muir admiring Yosemite Valley's monolithic granite headwall and a soaring California condor. The upper inscription reads "CALIFORNIA / 1850" while the lower one bears the date "2005" and the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM".
