Obverse: The central image on the obverse is an engraving of Saint Mary in the Mountains Catholic Church.  The church was built in 1870 and is one of the most historic churches in Nevada.  Inscribed above the central image is the name of the city "VIRGINIA CITY, NEVADA". 

Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is an engraving of the Comstock Mine.  The Comstock Lode is one of the largest silver deposits ever discovered in the United States.  The content, purity, and weight of "1 OZ .999 FINE SILVER" are inscribed along the outer edge at the bottom right.
