1 Oz 1851 Augustus Humbert Replica Round PF

Rare! Interesting octagonal-shaped round with a serial number on the edge.

Obverse: The central image on the obverse is a replica of the 1851 Augustus Humbert $50 slug.  The image is of a spread-winged eagle on the U.S. shield resting upon a rock holding an olive branch and arrows in its claws. Above the eagle is a cartouche containing the degree of fineness, in this case 887 thousandths. Within the circle is the text “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA/FIFTY DOLLS.” Around the edge are the words “AUGUSTUS HUMBERT UNITED STATES ASSAYER OF GOLD CALIFORNIA 1851.”

Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is a spiral pattern created by Humbert and known as “engine turning.

Edge: The edge is reeded on 6 of the 8 sides except for the top and bottom edges which have inscriptions. The top bears the letters NO followed by a 4-digit serial number. The bottom contains an inscription denoting the purity and content of ".999 FINE SILVER".
