The Central States Numismatic Society issues medals each year. Some are brass or other base metals, but some are minted in silver. For the 50th Anniversary, they commissioned this round to be minted. The mint and mintage are unknown.
Obverse: The obverse features a sitting figure of Lady Liberty. In one hand she holds a coin while in the other she has a magnifying glass. Resting against the chair is a shield with the initials "CSNS". The text "50TH ANNIVERSARY CENTRAL STATES NUMISMATIC SOCIETY" surrounds the image. The date "1989" is located at the bottom along with its Roman numeral equivalent of "MCMXXXIX".
Reverse: The reverse features the logo of the Central States Numismatic Society. It depicts an eagle with outstretched wings resting on an oval that has a map of the 13 states the society represents. Thirteen stars represent those states with three each to the left and right of the eagle and seven above it. The dates "1939-1989" are inscribed at the top. Sprigs of ivy decorate the rim along the outer edges.
