Description

Pike Medical Foundation is a non-profit organization started in 1987 and located in Pike County, Alabama. The purpose of the foundation is to raise support for medical needs in Pike County. This silver round was issued to raise both awareness and funding for the Edge Regional Medical Center, now known as Troy Regional Medical Center. The mint and mintage are unknown. Very rare round!

Obverse: The obverse features an etching of the Edge Regional Medical Center. Above the image is the logo for the Pike Medical Foundation and below it is the date "1988". Lettering around the edge reads "PIKE MEDICAL FOUNDATION" and "EDGE REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER".

Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is the trade scales, a common motif found on many trade unit silver rounds. Sprigs of ivy flank the scales to either side. The inscription located at the top is "THE INTERNATIONAL" and it is matched by "SILVER TRADE UNIT" which is centered at the bottom. The content of "ONE TROY OUNCE" is inscribed below the top inscription and the purity of ".999 FINE" is inscribed immediately above the scales. Inscribed directly below the scales is the weight of "31.1 GRAMS".
