Obverse: The obverse depicts Pope John Paul II offering a blessing.  Inscribed above the image is "POPE JOHN PAUL II APOSTLE OF PEACE". 

Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is a map of the United States encircled by rosary beads. An inscription at the top reads "PAPAL VISIT TO USA 1987". The mintmark "AMC" is located at the upper left. 

Edge: The edge is smooth. The weight, purity, and content of ".999 FINE SILVER 1 TR. OZ." is located at the bottom.
