1986 1 Oz Statue of Liberty Morgan Round BU

Minted in 1986 to celebrate the centennial of the Statue of Liberty.

Obverse: The central feature of the obverse is the Statue of Liberty illuminated by lights in the background. The phrase "THE SYMBOL OF FREEDOM" arches across the top while the dates "1886" and "1986" are found on either side of Liberty's outstretched arm. Stars decorate the outer rim. 

Reverse: The bird on the reverse side of the round is an American eagle with outstretched wings, replicating the design on the Morgan dollar. In one talon, it holds an olive branch; in the other talon, it clutches arrows, symbolizing that the United States is a peaceful nation but will defend itself if necessary. The eagle is surrounded by a wreath. The designation "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" encircles the image. The weight of "ONE TROY OZ" is inscribed at the bottom, while the composition of "999 FINE SILVER" is located just above the eagle's head.
