1986 1 Oz Houston/Texas Sesquicentennial Round BU

This round was one of a set of 6 rounds created in 1986 to commemorate the Texas Sesquicentennial. Colonial Coins, a Houston-based retailer, distributed the coins, but it is unknown which mint produced them. The mintage numbers for the set are also unknown, but the rounds are uncommon.

Obverse: The obverse features General Sam Houston mounted on horseback, pointing forward. The name "GENERAL SAM HOUSTON" is inscribed below the horse. An outer circle contains several inscriptions marking the celebration. The upper inscription reads “TEXAS SESQUICENTENNIAL” while the lower one denotes the weight and composition of “ONE TROY OUNCE ★ 999+ FINE SILVER”. The date "1836" is inscribed on the left, matched by "1986" on the right. 

Reverse: The reverse depicts a stylized skyline representing Houston. It is part of a star-shaped motif that contains the number "150". The name ""HOUSTON" is inscribed above the motif while the phrase "AND TEXAS" is found below it. An outer circle contains several inscriptions marking the celebration. The upper inscription reads “HOUSTON HARRIS COUNTY SESQUICENTENNIAL” while the lower one denotes the weight and composition of “ONE TROY OUNCE ★ 999+ FINE SILVER”.
