1995 1 Oz SilverTowne Pope John Paul Papal Visit Round BU

In 1995, Pope John Paul visited the United States from October 4-9. The highlight of the visit was the Pope's address to the United Nations on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Silvertowne celebrated the papal visit with silver and bronze rounds. Some were sold as sets, and some were available individually. The mintage is unknown, and the rounds are uncommon.

Obverse: The obverse features the left-facing profile of Pope John Paul II. Text surrounding the central image reads "POPE JOHN PAUL II VISIT TO U.S.A." The date "1995" is located at the bottom. 

Reverse: The design on the reverse is the commonly seen blank engravable back.  Usually, the center circle has no marking or engraving and is intended to provide a space for secondary market engraving.  In this case, Silvertowne engraved the phrase "COMMEMORATING THE POPE JOHN PAUL II ADDRESS TO THE UNITED NATIONS 1995". Scrollwork decorates the outer edge. The weight, purity, and content of "ONE TROY OUNCE .999 FINE SILVER" can be found at the top.
