1993 1 Oz Continental Coin University of Tennessee Volunteers Round PF

The University of Tennessee commissioned Continental Coin to produce this round in 1993. The rounds were probably minted in conjunction with the sports program and were sold through the University. The mintage is unknown, but the rounds are rare.

Obverse: The obverse depicts a University of Tennessee sports logo that was in use from 1987 through 1997. The logo features the silhouette of a hunter with coon skin cap and holding a rifle. The word "VOLS" with a star in the middle of the letter "O" is featured underneath the image. The words "LIMITED EDITION" arch across the top. The lower-left inscription specifies the weight of "ONE TROY OUNCE", while the composition of ".999 FINE SILVER" is shown at the lower-right. Continental Coin's overlapping "CC" mint mark is centered above the lower inscriptions. 

Reverse: The reverse features the interlocking letters "UT", one of the logos in use by the University of Tennessee. The name "UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE" arches across the top, while the school's nickname "VOLUNTEERS" is inscribed at the bottom. The date of "1993" is located above the nickname.
