This double eagle design is identical to rounds produced by the Olde New England Mint. The double eagle design is also found on a round attributed to the Historic Pennsylvania Mint. The American Mint likely minted all of the rounds. The round is rare.
Obverse: The obverse features a beautiful design of an eagle in flight. Snow-covered mountains are visible in the background. Four stars decorate the outer edges to the left and right of the central scene. The phrase "LIBERTY" is inscribed at the top, while the date "1985" can be found at the bottom.
Reverse: The central feature of the reverse is a heraldic eagle. The eagle grasps an olive branch in its right talon and arrows in its left talon, echoing the Great Seal of the United States. Above the eagle are thirteen five-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Colonies. A banner in the eagle's beak bears the inscription "AMERICAN MINT". The purity, weight, and content of "1 OZ .999 FINE SILVER" is inscribed on the shield of the eagle. The upper inscription reads "AMERICAN" and is completed by "DOUBLE EAGLE" at the bottom. Three stars decorate the left and right edges.
