1981 1 Oz Krewe of Ulysses Doubloon BU

Rare doubloon commissioned by the Krewe of Ulysses to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the krewe. The Krewe of Ulysses joined the Jackson County Carnival Association in 1976 as an all-male carnival krewe. In 2015, they reorganized as a Co-Ed krewe. The krewe is located in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Obverse: The obverse depicts an ancient sailing ship traveling past a lighthouse. The phrase "ULYSSES V" is inscribed in the ocean waves. An upper inscription reads "5TH ANNIVERSARY" while the lower one specifies the date and location of "PASCAGOULA 1981 MISSISSIPPI"

Reverse: The reverse features the insignia of the Krewe of Ulysses.  It depicts the left-facing head of Ulysses with six lightning bolts radiating from the effigy. An outer circle bears the inscription "KREWE OF ULYSSES" at the top and the date "1976" at the bottom. 

Edge: The edge is smooth with an inscription at the bottom denoting the purity and content of "999 F.S.".
