1978 1 Oz Knights of Momus Doubloon BU

The Knights of Momus was founded in 1872 and was the second-oldest parading Old Line Krewe in the New Orleans Carnival. The theme in 1978 was playing cards. This doubloon was designed by the artists Soule and KWS, who were apprentices of H. Alvin Sharpe, the creator of the Mardi Gras Doubloon. Uncommon silver round.

Obverse: The central image on the obverse is a playing card with the suits located on each of the four corners. A banner across the card reads "MOMUS DEALS" and the date "1978" can be found at the bottom.  The artists' signatures are inscribed at the lower left and lower right. 

Reverse: The reverse features the insignia of the Knights of Momus.  The insignia depicts a knight in full regalia on horseback.  The banner above the knight reads "KNIGHTS OF MOMUS". The organization's slogan of "DUM VIVIMUS VIVAMUS" is inscribed on a banner at the bottom. 

Edge: The edge is reeded except for a flat surface at the bottom which bears the purity and content of ".999 FS".
