The words "VIEUX CARRE" are inscribed at the top while the date "1968" is engraved at the bottom. To the right of the date is the name "JEAN LAFITE", a notable pirate. The name of his brother, "DOMINQUE YOU", is inscribed to the left. To the center left under a balcony are the initials "H.A.S.". H. Alvin Sharpe is a famous engraver known as the creator of the Mardi Gras Doubloons.
Reverse: The reverse features the insignia of the Elks Krewe of New Orleans. The central image is the head of a bull elk facing left.
