Second year of the series. Combined mintage of 500,000 for both the Moscow and St. Petersburg mints. The St. Petersburg Mint is historically significant. Consequently, coins minted at that location are valued slightly higher than coins minted at the Moscow mint.
Obverse: The obverse depicts Saint George the Victorious sitting on horseback while spearing a dragon. No lettering is inscribed, producing a minimalist effect on the coin.
Reverse: The reverse from 2009-2015 features the Central Bank of Russia emblem, a double-headed eagle with wings down, inset in a circle of dots. This emblem was the same one used by the Russian Republic in 1917. The phrase "БАНК РОССИИ" (Bank of Russia) is inscribed below the eagle. The denomination of "3 РУБЛЕЙ" (Three rubles) is located at the top of the outer circle, with the date "2009" found at the bottom. The precious metal content and purity of "AG 999" are located in the lower left, with the weight of "31,1" inscribed in the lower right. The mintmark is located on the rim to the right above the weight. E. V. Kramskaya designed this version of the reverse. This coin was minted at the St. Petersburg Mint (SPMD).
