2015 1 Oz Zambia Big Five Buffalo BU

Issued in 2015 as a part of a set of 5 coins celebrating the 5 big game trophy animals. The animals represented in the series are the lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard, and rhinoceros. Each of the coins had a limited mintage of 5,000 and was minted with 1 Oz .999 Fine Silver. The mint is unknown. 

Obverse: The obverse of the coin features a water buffalo standing in front of a map of Africa. To the left is the denomination of "5000 KWACHA" along with the date of "2015". The name of the series "AFRICA'S BIG FIVE" is located at the top and "AFRICAN BUFFALO" is found at the bottom. The weight, content, and purity of "1 OZ 999 SILVER" are inscribed in smaller letters along the rim to the right.

Reverse: The reverse features the coat of arms from the country of Zambia. The coat of arms was adapted from the British protectorate of Northern Rhodesia. The African fish eagle represents the conquest of freedom and the nation's hope for the future. The hoe and pickaxe represent the country's economic backbone: agriculture and mining, as well as the characteristics that have influenced Zambia's evolution and nature. The shield is a representation of Victoria Falls with white water cascading over black rock. The Victoria Falls represents the Zambezi River, from which Zambia takes its name. The coat of arms also has emblems of Zambia's natural resources: minerals and mining, agriculture and wildlife. The shield is supported by two figures which represent the common man and woman of the nation. The country's motto is "One Zambia, One Nation" which emphasizes the need for unity in a country of over 72 ethnic groups. Around the top is the name of the country "REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA" while the bottom inscription contains the date "2015".
