Issued by Alaska Mint to commemorate the centennial of the completion of the railway from Skagway to the Yukon. Beautifully designed with a proof-like finish. Mintage was capped to 999 with far fewer being produced.
Obverse: The central image on the obverse is a railway spike. In the background, a train coming down the railroad tracks can be seen. Underneath the spike, an inscription states "GOLDEN SPIKE DRIVEN AT CARCROSS, Y.T. JULY 29,1900". The outer circle contains an upper inscription that reads "CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION". The lower inscription further specifies "SKAGWAY, ALASKA * 1900-2000 * WHITEHORSE, YUKON".
Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is the official logo for the White Pass & Yukon Route. The inner circle depicts a train steaming across a trestle in between two steep mountains. The words "GATEWAY TO THE YUKON" are etched on the trestle. Along the outer circle are the words "WHITE PASS &" at the top and "YUKON ROUTE" at the bottom. Bullets separate the two inscriptions.
Edge: The edge is smooth with an inscription along the edge at the top that reads " ALASKA MINT .999 FINE SILVER". A 3-digit serial number is stamped along the bottom edge.
