Obverse: The obverse side of the Canadian Silver bullion coin displays the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Arnold Machin. Inscribed across the top of the Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin is "ELIZABETH II". An inscription denoting the denomination and year of mintage of "5 DOLLARS 1989" can be found at the bottom of the coin.
Reverse: The reverse side of the Canadian Silver bullion coins features the national symbol of Canada, the Maple Leaf. Inscribed along the top of the silver bullion coin is "CANADA". The bottom inscription reads "FINE SILVER, 1 OZ, ARGENT PUR", the weight and composition of the coin written in both English and French. The purity of "9999" is inscribed on either side of the maple leaf.
