Description

Although originally thought to have been minted by California Crown Mint, recent research by Texas Stacker has definitively attributed these rounds to Colonial Coins from Houston, Texas.  The program ran from 1986 through 1991, with the rounds being produced by Colonial Coins (1986-1991) and American Custom Minting (1986-1987). Rounds minted by Colonial Coins bear the mint marks of CSM, CCM, CM, or P. The ACM mint mark designated an American Custom Minting round. The program included both silver and fractional gold denominations. None of the years is common, but 1986 is encountered more frequently. The mintages are unknown.

Obverse: The obverse of the round depicts the obverse of the Great Seal of the State of Texas. It consists of a five-pointed star, encircled by olive and live oak branches. The words "THE STATE OF TEXAS" are inscribed at the top. The weight, purity, and content of "ONE TROY OUNCE .999 FINE SILVER" can be found inscribed along the lower rim.

Reverse: The reverse depicts the reverse side of the Great Seal of Texas. It consists of a shield, of which the lower half is divided into two parts. On the shield's lower left is a depiction of the cannon of the Battle of Gonzales, and on the lower right is a depiction of Vince's Bridge. The upper half of the shield depicts the Alamo. The shield is circled by live oak and olive branches and the unfurled flags of France, Spain, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the Confederate States of America, and the United States of America. The motto "REMEMBER THE ALAMO" is located at the top of the shield, while "TEXAS ONE AND INDIVISIBLE" can be found at the bottom. Above the shield, centered between the flags, is a five-pointed star. The words "TEXAS SILVER" are imposed on the star, and the date "1986" is found at the bottom.  The micro-printed mint mark "CM" is located underneath the shield to the right.
