OSHO was a guru and spiritual teacher born in India. Traveling to the United States in the late 1970's, OSHO sought a larger property away from big cities. In mid-1981, a 64,000-acre ranch was purchased near Antelope, Oregon, which became the commune Rajneeshpuram. In 1985, OSHO's secretary, Ma Anand Sheila, committed a bioterror attack in Dalles, Oregon, in a conspiracy to murder the local DA. OSHO and Sheila were deported from the United States and denied entry into 21 countries. Oregon Mint produced a series of 5 rounds addressing these events. The rounds are quite rare, particularly the one with "Texas"!
Obverse: The obverse portrays the Bhagwan pushing a Rolls-Royce across the desert. A sign in the background states "TEXAS ROLLS ROYCE AUCTION". The sun sets behind the mountains in the background. The image references the over 90 Rolls Royce's purchased by the Bhagwan. Upon his indictment, they were auctioned off. Text across the top reads "ANTELOPE BAGGED THE BHAGWAN". Underneath is the date "OCTOBER 1985".
Reverse: The reverse is the common reverse for the series. It is a replica of the reverse of a Morgan dollar. The bird is an American eagle with outstretched wings. In one talon, it holds an olive branch; in the other talon, it holds arrows, symbolizing that the United States is a peaceful nation but will defend itself if necessary. The purity and content of ".999 FINE SILVER" is inscribed above the eagle's head, where the motto would have been. Along the left rim is the weight of "ONE TROY OUNCE" while at the right is the phrase "SILVER TRADE UNIT".
