1985 1 Oz Engelhard Prospector Type 1 Round BU

Rarest variety.  The Type 1 round from 1985 has a thicker date closer to the edge.  The water is more "choppy" and less defined with blockier line engravings resembling waves.  This is the obverse that is found on all the preceding years of 1982 through 1984.

Obverse: The obverse of Engelhard Silver Prospector rounds shows a bearded prospector in a broad-brimmed hat, sitting on a streambank and panning the gravel for gold or silver. This rather dignified figure of the individual prospector is flanked by the abbreviation “USA” on one side and the year on the other. Underneath the image of the prospector, wreathed along the lower curve of the round’s obverse is the title “THE AMERICAN PROSPECTOR”. The outer rim of the round is surrounded by inscribed dots.

Reverse: The central image on the reverse is an eagle carrying a flag. The inscription above the eagle reads “ENGELHARD” while below the weight, purity, and content of “ONE TROY OUNCE 999+ FINE SILVER” are inscribed. The outer rim of the round is surrounded by inscribed dots.
