Bunker Hill was one of the largest mining and smelting complexes in the world. The company was based in Idaho. In 1981 and 1982 it commissioned Medallic Art Company to mint a series of 5 medals celebrating milestones of the company. The silver for the rounds was all mined from the company's Kellogg mine. A maximum of 30,000 of each round were produced although it is thought that far fewer were produced. This was the only set of 1 Oz rounds that the company produced. All of its other products were ingots and bars. Very limited mintage.
Obverse: The set commemorates milestones of the Bunker Hill Mining Company. The rounds depict the following: BH1 - Noah Kellogg and his donkey, BH2 - the Kellogg tunnel, BH3 - lead smelter, BH4 - the electrolytic zinc plant, and BH5 - the electrolytic silver refinery. Text describing the milestone surrounds the central images on each round.
Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is the Bunker Hill Company logo. It states "BUNKER HILL SILVER" within a banner. The text at the top of the rounds read "THE BUNKER HILL COMPANY / KELLOGG IDAHO" along with the date of 1981 or 1982. Text at the bottom reads "A SUBSIDIARY OF / GULF RESOURCES & CHEMICAL CORPORATION". The weight, purity, and content of "ONE TROY OUNCE 999.5 FINE" is inscribed below the logo banner.
Edge: The edge is reeded with a smooth space at the bottom containing "THE METAL ARTS CO ROCH N.Y.".
