1976 2 Gram Eagle Bicentennial Round BU

Rare round! Few fractional rounds were produced in the 1970s and the fractional size of 2 grams is quite rare.  While there is no mint mark on the round, the lettering and size are similar to bars produced by Simmons.  Like many of the smaller Simmons bars, this round can be found in pendants and other jewelry. It is quite possible that this round was minted by them. The round is made of .999 Fine Silver. 

Obverse: The obverse features an eagle in flight facing right. It carries an olive branch in its talons.  The upper inscription reads "SILVER ISSUE".  The weight, content, and purity of "2 GR FINE SILVER .999" is inscribed below that in between the eagle's outstretched wings.  To the lower left is a star with the date "1776".  The number "8528178" is inscribed at the bottom of the round. 

Reverse: Due to the thinness of the round, the reverse is simply the back side of the obverse.
