Description
Obverse: The central image on the obverse depicts a replica of a US stamp from 1949 celebrating the creation of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). The stamp depicts an airplane circling the globe. The inscription at the top reads "100TH ANNIVERSARY" and immediately below "FOREIGN MAILS". The beginning and end anniversary dates are located at the bottom and the inscription immediately above them reads "UNIVERSAL POSTAL UNION". Sprigs of ivy decorate the lower left and lower right of the round.
Reverse: The reverse features a textual inscription relating to the Universal Postal Union. Above the text are the dates 1874-1974 while beneath the inscription is the logo of the US Postal Service.
Edge: The edge is reeded except for a small smooth space which contains a serial number and the the purity and content of ".999 F.S.".
