1972 1 Oz USPS Boston Post Road Round BU

Obverse: The central image on the obverse depicts a horse and rider speeding to deliver the mail. In the background is a meandering line from Boston to New York. The inscription at the top reads "300TH ANNIVERSARY" and immediately below "FIRST SCHEDULED MAIL ROUTE". The date is located at the bottom and the inscription immediately above it reads "BOSTON POST ROAD". Sprigs of ivy decorate the lower left and lower right of the round.

Reverse: The reverse features a textual inscription relating to the first scheduled mail route. Above the text are the dates 1672-1972 while beneath the inscription is the logo of the US Postal Service.

Edge: The edge is reeded except for a small smooth space which contains a serial number and the purity and content of ".999 F.S.".
